Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I want to see what is available so I can adjust my vacation plans. How can I get this information?
A: From the Reservations page, put in a date close to your interest. First click on "Availability Overview," then click on "Click here for more detailed Availability Chart." This will take you to the overview that allows you to see availability for each unit. You can see availability for a month at a time. The grid shows the color codes and rate codes. All green shaded boxes are available. The little 7 means that the unit has a weekly rate available for a minimum 7-day booking. Plum color means the unit is booked and unavailable unless we receive a cancellation.
Q: I can't get the dates I need but I still want to come. Do you have a waiting list?
A: YES. On our Waiting List page, fill out the form and use the "Submit" button. You may also email your request to Drakesbad@calparksco.com or fax your request to 530-529-4511. Our Ranch Manager will contact you (by email or phone) with availability as we monitor cancellations. The more flexible you are, the better.
You may also consider Room Hopping as an option. In your Waiting List request, click on the check box indicating you would consider this option and we will confirm a reservation solution for you to consider. With your approval, Room Hopping gives us the authority to move you during that particular time frame to accommodate your stay. Moving is simple and accomplished with the assistance of the Ranch Staff while you are out enjoying the beauty of Drakesbad.
Q: I have never been to Drakesbad. What should I bring?
A: Warm clothes for cool mornings and evenings, hiking boots, swim wear, insect repellant, sunscreen, and a good flashlight with extra batteries is the simple list. A light rain or windbreaker and long pants and boots if you plan to horseback ride are suggested. No need to bring hair dryers or curling irons, since there is no electricity in the rooms. (Our lodge lobby does have outlets, if you must use your computer for uploading pictures or work). Cell phone reception is marginal at the Ranch and we are pleased to remind you that you may go without email service your entire stay! There is, however, cell reception and internet service available in Chester.
Q: We travel with Fido. Can we bring our pet to Drakesbad?
A: National Park policy allows pets in the park as long as they are on leash and remain off hiking trails. Drakesbad Guest Ranch, however, cannot accommodate pets in the rooms and discourages leaving pets in vehicles overnight. For this reason, pets are not allowed at Drakesbad. Pet Boarding is available locally:

Q: What is the direct route to Drakesbad?

Q: When is check-in / check-out time?
