Drakesbad Guest Ranch Fly Fishing Program: Fly Fishing with Tom Maumoynier
Instructor Background and Experience:
Tom Maumoynier, owner of The Lake Almanor Fly Fishing Company located at 262 Main Street #4 in Chester, California, has been fly fishing, fly tying, rod building, instructing and guiding for over 35 years. The last 17 years in the Lake Almanor area, Tom and his experienced guides have specialized in still water and river techniques that are very effective in the Almanor and the Sierra Nevada.
Trip Overview:
When you go fishing with Tom or one of his experienced guides you will learn about the entomology of the streams and ways to limit our impact on this delicate environment. You will also gain valuable insight into all aspects of fly-fishing including knot tying, fly casting, presentation of a fly, catch & release procedures and everything else you need to know to get started in this challenging and relaxing activity.
Required Equipment:
All you need to bring is a valid One Day California Fishing License (available for sale at Ranch),your willingness to learn, a pair of sunglasses, a head cover and some sun screen. Everything else is provided.
Geographic Overview:
Fly fishing activities take place within Lassen Volcanic National Park and adjoining areas of Drakesbad Guest Ranch. We will be fishing for native Rainbow, Brook, and German Brown Trout on the Hot Spring Creek, Kings Creek and Warner Creek. Lassen Park has not planted fish in several decades, so the fish caught will be wild and colorful. All fish are caught and gently released.
